Case Study: Continuous Moisture Monitoring and Control in Nut Processing
A pecan processor in New Mexico needed a way to continuously monitor moisture in nuts on their production line. The periodic sampling and laboratory assay they had been using allowed too much variation, and high or low moisture content increased processing costs and could require addition of nuts to packages to maintain advertised weight. After testing a flat plate moisture sensor from AgriChem the company implemented that technology and reduced both production costs and production times. At the same time, they were able to maintain more uniform moisture content in kernels coming from the dryer as the system provides real-time feedback that allows operators to adjust the dryer’s belt speed to keep moisture content precisely on target.
